Picking Trolley Enhances Waitrose Deliver Service
Founded in 1904, Waitrose is the food division of the John Lewis Partnership with 225 branches across the UK. The company differentiates itself from its competitors by offering high quality food and delivering the highest level of customer service. Waitrose also operates its own internet-based home delivery service, WaitroseDeliver serviced from key local branches.
To maintain and build upon the success achieved by the WaitroseDeliver service, the company wanted to update the existing picking trolleys that were used in-store to fulfil orders placed over the internet. In particular, Waitrose wanted to improve the way that batteries carried on the trolleys to power onboard scanners and computers could be recharged. This would enable stores to extend the time that each trolley could be used to meet the increasing customer demand.
X2 , one of the UK's fastest growing providers of mobile computing solutions, was awarded this important contract, after successfully completing similar e-fulfilment projects in the UK, USA, Portugal and Scandinavia, to develop a custom solution to meet the needs of the fast growing WaitroseDeliver service.
The new trolleys will be used to fulfil online grocery orders and will be easier to handle, provide 20% additional picking capacity and deliver significant cost savings and efficiencies. They will initially be deployed in 30 key stores providing the Waitrose Deliver service.
