Bingo Goes Digital At Gala Coral
The Gala Coral Group has significant businesses in the bookmaking, bingo and casino markets, both on the high street and online. The Group has three operating divisions; Gala Gaming, incorporating the Bingo and Casino divisions which runs over 180 clubs/casinos; Retail Betting which runs almost 2,000 betting shops in the UK, Eurobet shops in Italy and two greyhound stadia at Romford and Hove; Remote Gambling, which is responsible for the management of the Group's E-Commerce activities in the UK and worldwide, this division also operates Coral Telebet, a telephone betting business and Gala TV (Sky channel 861). The Group also has a growing international business and is the first gambling company to have received full GamCare accreditation across all its divisions.
As Europe's pre-eminent integrated betting and gaming group, Gala Coral wanted to offer an exciting alternative to paper bingo cards. Whilst this would be based on new tablet computers to provide an enhanced gaming experience, it was important that they would not replace all the traditional fun elements such as having to shout 'HOUSE' when members have a winning card. The terminals would also give members the opportunity to play a wide range of 'Skill with Prizes' games in the intervals.
X2 was awarded this important contract to supply more than 6,700 hand-held bingo terminals as it was able to develop a custom solution to meet Gala Bingo's precise requirements. Instead of the lightweight, consumer-based devices on offer from other suppliers, X2 equipped each device with a robust, ruggedized casing, integrated handle and kick stand.
According to Gala Coral: "This latest innovation will bring bingo into the digital age. . . The new terminals will enable us to attract a new generation of members by offering an even wider gaming choice whilst achieving a rapid return on our investment. They will also deliver significant environmental benefits through the significant reduction of paper waste at each location."
The bingo terminals feature a large 10.1" touch screen enabling members to play a large number of bingo cards simultaneously, displaying a real-time view of the six most complete cards and allowing numbers on multiple cards to be marked off with a single dab of the screen. X2 has also provided an integrated charging system that allows up to 25 devices to be charged at the same time.
Gala Bingo was the first operator to introduce digital bingo terminals on such a wide scale and this roll-out will consolidate the company's position as the UK's largest provider of digital bingo gaming. In addition to supplying all the terminals, X2 is providing a range of professional and support services for the next two years.
"Our unrivalled expertise and track record of successful deployments puts us in a prime position to benefit from the expanding market for hand-held bingo terminals, which in the UK alone is expected to reach up to 100,000 units over the next few years," added X2.
